Lesley-Ann Brandt, Spartacusisn't the only actor to be replaced for the second season. Is also leaving the Starz series, and her role will be recast, TV Guide.com has confirmed. In the prequel, Brandt played body slave Naevia to Lucretia , who eventually becomes the lover of Crixus the gladiator in the original series' first season.
The world has never been that perfect. But enough pessimism; let us instead honor the sex-crazed phenomenon that is Spartacus: Gods Of The Arena with a list, The 10 Hottest Women From Spartacus. Warning: Not all ancient love was tender and pure. In fact, most of it was filled with hate and wrong. Underneath the saucy, salacious 'of-the-era' sex of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, and the prequel series Gods of the Arena, lies a breathtakingly labyrinthine story about ambition, repression and destiny. If you've seen the show then you know how, shall we say, 'free' the actors are with their.
Brandt decided not to renew her contract to appear in the second season. The news was first reported. She just began a recurring role on and recently appeared on an episode of. It's not clear whether or not Starz will be looking for an actress with similar features and coloring as Brandt for a replacement. A rep for the network confirmed that casting is wide open to find 'the best people for each role' and not based on a specific look. The series doesn't always stick to historical accuracy in its casting of the supporting roles. The role of Oenomaus is reimagined as an African slave, but the original gladiator who had teamed up with Spartacus was from Gaul, a region of Europe during the Roman era.Whitfield had to drop out of Spartacus to battle non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and stepped into his sandals for the second season, which will begin production soon.Spartacus: Gods of the Arena airs Fridays at 10/9c on Starz.
Nancy drew cw. The six-part prequel will conclude on Friday, Feb. 25.Who would you like to see as Naevia?
Will you miss Brandt?( Disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS Interactive, a division of ViacomCBS.).
I think the biggest problem with Naevia isn't the character of Naevia but rather the actress that plays her. She tends to overact her scenes to a ridiculous extent.
I understand that Naevia as a character craves revenge more than anything, but I find it incredibly hard to believe that a woman from that age would be so vindictive all the time. At times, probably. Yeah, probably. But as pissed off as a honey badger on steroids constantly? Give me a break. To change my opinion of her character and the actress, the writers should let her demonstrate a wider range of emotions than just ANGRYFUCKYOU and CRYINGLIKEALITTLEBITCH.That being said, I still think the original actress was a hundred times a better actress. You are meaning to say that a woman is not capable of being as vindictive.all.the.time.and angry and upset that she was constantly raped for so long a time period?
Oh, I'm sorry, how about you try to be be raped in that manner and remain a docile, sweet, cute little woman for it? I think that her 'bad acting' has nothing to do with you disbelieving that a 'woman' could be capable of those emotions and behaviors; I think she could just be bad actress, not necessarily with what behaviors are acceptable to women or not. I think Naevia is great. In Gods of the Arena, we see her lose a large part of her innocence when she is forced to watch her friend get raped, then later killed in the arena.Next, in Blood and Sand, she falls in love with Crixus and she also has to witness Barca's murder early on.
Atomic pinball collection edition download. She's raped by Ashur. And then she's beaten and sent off to another house. In Vengeance, we find she's at the mines, forced to perform extreme hard labor.
She's raped and beaten in the mines. And we find in War of the Damned that before she even got to the mines, she was raped and sexually mutilated for a Roman man before she even got TO the salt mines.
And keep in mind, Naevia was a body slave, meaning that she was the most pampered slave in the house. So her whole world is turned upside when she's forced from the ludus.I say all this to remind people what she's been through.
So many people have been calling her a 'crazy bitch' (not in this thread, but in others on the sub and in comments elsewhere) and whatnot, and I just don't think it's fair to say she's crazy. If a person is forced to go through all that, they certainly wouldn't come out unscathed. And why should she have any love for the Romans? She has more reasons than most to hate them. Not only did they take her freedom from the moment she was born, but they have beaten her, raped her, and mutilated her body. And it wasn't just one or two Romans - it was every Roman she's ever known. So of course she's pissed off and wants to kill Romans.
Is she turning into the people who hurt her? But so is Spartacus.
The only time he paused to consider the consequences of the war was when he saw the mother/daughter dead in the streets. And since then what? He saved the few Romans that were left only to shackle them up and let them starve, scrape, and beg. He hasn't tried to win them over to his side, he hasn't treated them well or done ANYTHING to help them.
The only one he's even spoken to is Laeta and we all know that's just set the stage for Spartacus and her to have gratuitous sex scenes for the last half of the season. So yeah, Naevia hacked at that dude's hand. But let's not pretend that anyone besides Gannicus and his Roman friend were upset about it. They're all beginning to turn savage.I remember last season when everyone was calling her useless. Now that she's a badass warrior who isn't take anyone's shit, people are saying she's too savage.(also, this post is meant to address 's post as well. I just put it into one big post instead of making multiple posts).
I think the hardest part about trying to like her character is the fact that her huge moment reuniting with Crixus was this new actress, and you're thinking who is this woman? At least that's how it was for me. I was supposed to feel some emotion for her character being rescued but I just didn't, she felt like any one of the other nameless faces in the mine. I knew she was Naevia but she just didn't feel like it.Everything you've said makes sense, but I agree with the OP. The actress playing Naevia just rubs me the wrong way, and I can't get behind anything she's done. I can't say I'd have liked the original actress much more but I know it'd be more than the current one.
I agree with a lot of what you've said, however just because her actions are understandable does not mean her actions are likable. For example, while I can understand why she killed the blacksmith, it doesn't mean that I wasn't upset by it. I am equally as horrified with Spartacus and friends over their treatment of the Romans as well. They are giving the Romans the exact treatment they are fighting against, but I can understand where they're coming from. And that's good! It means the show is complex and makes you feel sentiment for both sides. Every show needs a character you love to hate, that way we can get satisfaction from their gory deaths. And no one said we only have to feel that about just the 'bad' guys.
Ohmygod i HATE the new Naevia! I know people are saying she's not attractive, or whatever, but I really could not care less about that, I think she's very pretty.
Honestly I'm bothered that she and Crixus have NO CHEMISTRY AT ALL. Like i dont understand why they cast someone she would have to be soul mates with if they didnt have ANY chemistry! Also, why does she scream all the time!
It is SO annoying, and it makes her face ugly(idk, it just does). I agree with the other posters, they shouldve killed her off.
